Staff Associate/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Sculpture (One Position)

 Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill a vacant position of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Staff Associate in Sculpture tenable in the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Chancellor College in Zomba.

The candidate must have adequate knowledge in any combination of the following forms, styles, techniques or categories of sculpture: moulded sculpture, cast sculpture, carved sculpture, assembled sculpture, traditional 3-D art forms, architectural sculpture, and plaster/wood/solid block/stone sculpture.

Academic Qualifications and Attributes

Applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer must possess the following:

  • PhD in sculpture or related art field

  • Evidence of at least three years of teaching and research at a reputable academic institution

  • A track record of publishing in the area of sculpture or related art field

Applicants for the position of Lecturer must possess:

  • A Master’s degree (MFA or MA) or its equivalent in Fine Arts

  • Experience in teaching Sculpture at an academic institution will be an added advantage

Applicants for the post of Staff Associate must possess:

  • A degree with minimum of credit in either Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art (BA Fine Art), Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) or Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) majoring in Fine Art

Experience in metal casting, jewellery making, 3D design, and metal welding will be added advantages for all positions.

  • Academic transcripts demonstrating evidence of having studied sculpture at least at the undergraduate level as a major or minor subject

Only shortlisted candidates who fulfil the above requirements will be invited for interviews. All shortlisted candidates should prepare to attend both practical and oral interviews in a prescribed area of sculpture.


Among other duties, the successful candidate shall be required to:

  • Primarily teach traditional sculpture processes and techniques (wood, solid block and stone carving), as well as other non-traditional sculpture genres

  • Teach other art courses as may be requested

  • Set and timely mark examinations for undergraduate courses

  • Supervise undergraduate student projects in Fine Art

  • Organise student exhibitions and outreach activities

  • Carry out research in the area of sculpture and related fields
