Chancellor College, a constituent College of the University of Malawi, prides itself for developing and running degree programmes that are geared at addressing developmental needs of Malawi in particular, and the world in general.  In this regard, a couple of years ago and in response to the needs of the private sector in Malawi, the University of Malawi approved an Actuarial Science degree for which it needs a champion.  Hence, with the support of Old Mutual Malawi with which it entered into partnership, the University of Malawi, has created a prestigious Professorial Chair to be filled by an eminent scholar in Actuarial Science which is based in the Faculty of Science.  A very attractive compensation package accompanies this Chair which meets international standards.


Candidates wishing to be considered for the academic chair mentioned above, are supposed to be tried and tested academic leaders in the field of Actuarial Science.


The basic function of the Job is to provide strong leadership to a newly created Actuarial Science Department so that it is able to run solid programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels while engaging in multidisciplinary research led by the Chair himself who should be capable of developing sound curricula in this area and leading a team that can teach it effectively and efficiently.


Candidates wishing to be considered for this prestigious position, should be highly qualified researchers and professors with a proven track record of mentoring junior academics and publishing in top Actuarial Science or Statistics journals and be committed to continuing to demonstrate excellence in research and teaching evidenced by supervision of postgraduate students.  Additionally, they should be holders of a doctorate in Actuarial Science obtained from an internationally recognized university.  Successful candidates will be engaged on a four year renewable contract.
