First Conference Announcement On University Of Malawi – Siu Conference
Special Invitation
The University of Malawi and the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU) in
Norway are pleased to announce that there will be an International Conference that will be held in Malawi
in February 2009.
Please plan to attend this conference and do not miss this opportunity to interface with young and
outstanding experts from the south and north.
Conference Objectives and Themes
The purpose of the conference will be focus on and discuss results from the institutional collaboration in the
NUFU Programme, and to look at institutional cooperation in a future perspective, with a specific view to
the continuation of the NUFU Programme after 2011.
Tentatively, the themes of the conference are: Science and Engineering, Politics and governance,
Environment and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Health, ICT, Culture and Language, Cross-cutting
issues- gender, HIV and AIDS, and Youth, Networking/Institutional Cooperation. These are subject to
change depending on the demand from the relevant scientists and stakeholders.
Venue and Date
The venue is Capital Hotel - Lilongwe.
This also gives you an opportunity to see the beautiful landscapes of Malawi and its beautiful lake.
The conference will be held from 11 to 13 February 2009.
Language and Target Groups
Paper presentations, posters, displays, discussions and other information will be in English.
The primary target group will be: institutional leadership involved in the NUFU programme
globally (from the South and Norway); decision makers of different levels from Southern
Africa and Norway; some project coordinators; NUFU Programme Board; and some keynote
speakers and resource persons. In addition, other relevant leaders and scientists as well as
resource persons from other similar projects shall be invited.
Call for Abstracts and Papers
Those wishing to present papers and posters should start preparing their abstracts which
should be submitted by __________________. The standard scientific format should be
used as a guide in preparation of abstracts. The deadline for full papers and posters as
well as other displays shall be announced later.
