College of Medicine
The College of Medicine is located in Blantyre along the Mahatma Gandhi Road, a
few kilometres away from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, which is the main teaching
hospital. The College opened its doors in September 1991. It has a number of annexes
at Zomba Central Hospital, Kasungu Hospital, Mangochi Hospital, Rumphi Hospital and
Kamuzu Central Hospital. The college has a total student population of 396

The college offers a degree programme in Science of Medicine. The programme is an integration
of the Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical disciplines of the college.
The two disciplines fall under one faculty, the Faculty of Medicine which has the
following departments:
- Anaesthesia,
- Anatomy,
- Biochemistry,
- Community Health,
- Haematology,
- Medicine,
- Microbiology,
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology,
- Paediatrics,
- Histopathology,
- Physiology and
- Surgery.
