The Vice Chancellor’s vision for the University of Malawi is to be an academic institution providing relevant world class education, research and services for sustainable development of Malawi and the world through effective and efficient utilization of its human and financial resources.
This vision shall be achieved by:
1. providing opportunities for all management staff to undergo training in leadership and management and for all academic staff who require further training to be assisted to attain higher qualifications,
2. reviewing existing systems and structures
3. developing and implementing initiatives in consultation with staff to create a conducive working environment.
Accepting the pivotal role that higher education plays in national development, the University of Malawi has embarked on a number of initiatives that shall contribute to the realization of its mandate in the context of current and future needs of Malawi.
During the next five years, the University of Malawi shall endeavour to increase student intake, introduce new demand-driven programmes and expand postgraduate training without losing site of quality of its programmes and graduates. The University shall also broaden and improve its funding in order to ensure that its goals are achieved. It is expected that these and other activities to be implemented shall sustain UNIMA as a leader in higher education in Malawi in the many years to come.
