The Vice-Chancellor's vision for the University of Malawi is to be an academic institution
providing relevant world class education, research and services for sustainable development
of Malawi and the world through effective and efficient utilization of its human
and financial resources.
The vision shall be achieved by:
- providing opportunities for all management staff to undergo training in management
and for all academic staff who require further training to be assisted to attain
higher qualifications;
- reviewing existing systems and structures, and
- developing initiatives in consultation with staff to create a conducive environment.

Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano is not new to the University of Malawi whose constituent of Chancellor
College he joined in 1977 as a Teaching Assistant and through the years rose to the rank
of Senior Lecturer.
Dr. Fabiano was Head of Chemistry Department from 1990 to 1994;
Acting Vice-Principal in 1994; Principal from 1994 to 1998; Acting Principal from 2005
to 2006; Principal again from 2006 up to the time he was appointed Vice-Chancellor
of the University of Malawi on 30th November, 2009.
Dr. Fabiano has a BEd obtained in 1977 from the University of Malawi; an MSc (1980) from
the University of Warwick and a PhD (1986) from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
